1. Start with a Fresh SlateBefore using a flat iron, it’s always a good idea to shampoo and deep condition your hair thoroughly before-hand.  The best results are derived when a flat iron is used with clean, freshly washed hair.
2. Apply Product to Your HairAfter completely drying your hair, applying protective product will prevent your hair from being destroyed by the flat iron. Ask your hair stylist which products will best protect your tresses from the heat, and make sure to use it before applying heat. It will prevent your hair from looking frizzled.
3. Tone Back the TemperatureMost people assume that in order to get the best results, one needs to put their flat iron on the highest heat setting. Even though darker hair tends to be coarse, too much exposure to heat can seriously damage one’s locks. Consider putting your flat iron on a low-to-medium heat setting to prevent overheating your hair!
4. Slow and Steady Wins the RaceWhen using the flat iron, it’s always the best idea to divide one’s hair into sections and detangle it with a wide-toothed comb before applying the heat. Honey and Oil:

2 tablespoons of honey

1/3 cup of olive oil (also good for dry skin)

Mix honey into oil using a whisk and small bowl.  Apply to dry hair, concentrating on the ends.  Wrap hair in hot towel for 30 minutes.  Rinse thoroughly, repeat as necessary as hair could be sticky if not rinsed out.

Eggs, Honey and Oil:

1 egg

1 teaspoon of honey

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Whisk egg into the honey then whisk olive oil into the mixture.  Shampoo hair, rinse and apply mixture to hair and scalp.  Massage for 5 minutes and then rinse.

Fairfax and Clifton, VA – On the heels of a successful Thanksgiving food drive in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus and St. Andrew the Apostle of Clifton, Salon Antoine and Spa of Fairfax decided to continue and extend their charitable ways to the Christmas-New Year Holidays and the results “exceeded my wildest expectations,” said salon owner, Antoine ‘Tony’ Chahine.

“Between our Salon and the food gathering bins outside my home where our festive evening light shows draw such an appreciative crowd every night, we were able to gather 40 boxes of food expressly for the benefit of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.  That represents 1,635 pounds of can and non-perishable foodstuffs and hair products — more than 1,840 items in all — all for the 63 food pantries across the 21 Northern Virginia counties served by Catholic Charities. I am so happy with the results!”

Chahine continued, “We are a stand-alone salon and spa. We are not a multi-point hamburger or pizza or coffee/donut chain where these sorts of helping-hand challenges are better met.
